The Muskegon River and the Grand River are both fishing good right now. Both have fresh steelhead working their way upstream. The Muskegon is at an elevated level right now but the color looks perfect. The Grand River is still very high but slowly dropping and chrome and dark fish are being caught in the downtown area. This warmer weather has brought fresh fish into West Michigan area rivers and if the weather pattern continues we should continue to see that. If you want to get out before the spring crowds get with me for availability. I love these early run fish.
The weather this winter so far in West Michigan has been unbelievable. The above normal temps have allowed us to continue to open water fish. Our outings this month have mainly taken place on the Muskegon river due to the Grand being so high and dirty. Steelhead fishing has been consistent. We are having to work for them but that is typical of this time of year. Hard effort goes a long ways though and there is truly something special about winter fishing. Float fishing bag & bead combos has been our most productive tactic and we have taken a few backbouncing bait as well. If this weather trend continues, I would anticipate an early run of spring steelhead. I have some February availability and have some March/April dates open as well. What a fall/ early winter its been! We have had some great fishing on our guide trips. On this last day of 2019, the rivers in West Michigan are on the rise from some pretty heavy rainfall we received about 24 hrs ago. Once the rivers settle down alittle and with the mild weather forecasted, we should have some good steelhead fishing well into January. Get ahold of me if you want to get on the water and do some winter fishing! Fresh air, awesome scenery and good fishing make winter a memorable experience on the river. Also, I am booking spring steelhead trips and summer smallmouth so get with me if theres a date your interested in. (616) 813-5989
