River levels are high to start out the month of November. Steelhead are trickling in and are spread out in the Muskegon River. With the fish spread out, backbouncing has been our most productive technique for putting fish in the boat. Also, bobber-dogging beads or eggs has brought fish to the net. Covering water works best with the current water conditions. We usually get a good November push of fish, so November and December are great months to book a steelhead charter. We have also been fishing the Grand. The best fishing has been up near the 6th street dam. But as river temps cool and river levels drop, the downstream water will fish good. Hopefully we will see a break in the rain so that will happen. These fall steelhead are worth pursuing, get in touch with me for available dates.
Fall steelhead are here! Over the last week we have switched our focus from King Salmon to steelhead. Nothing beats the speed and aerial acrobatics of a fall chromer. Floatfishing beads or eggs, backbouncing bait and casting hardware are all productive tactics for fall steelies. The egg bite is on. We have been boating some nice resident trout along with the steelhead, gorging on the salmon eggs in the river. The cooler weather is dropping river temps and increasing steelhead numbers. The fishing should only get better. I have a few October dates available yet and a good number of prime November and December dates. Get in touch for some hot fishing!
Its been a successful King Salmon season here in West Michigan. Again, like 2018, this years run has featured some very large fish. We did not top the 30lb mark on my boat yet but did land a large male at just over 29lbs and a good number in the mid 20s and above. The power of a king salmon can not be matched. Destroyed crankbaits, straightened hooks, broken rods and customers wondering what the heck just happened after a fish peeled off a 100ft of line in the blink of an eye. We have been running our trips on the PM and Muskegon rivers. Casting crankbaits and bobber fishing skein have both been productive. We have a couple more weeks of king fishing but it wont be long before we switch our focus over to steelhead, and I am really looking forward to this. October, November and December are great months to be on the river in pursuit of chrome steelhead. Get ahold of me to book your date!
