St. Mary’s River

The St. Mary’s River flows from Lake Superior approximately 75 miles into Lake Huron. It is also an international border its entire length, setting between Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and Canada. Its waters are crystal clear and generally cold. The best way to describe this river is world class. The main target species for our guide trips on the St. Mary’s is the Atlantic Salmon, but there are also possibilities for steelhead, resident rainbow trout and whitefish as well. Depending on water and weather conditions, our guide trips on this river can start as early as mid-June and can last into mid-August. Most of our fishing is focused on the area around the Cloverland Hydro plant, but we also know other areas of the river that can be productive. Thanks to the hard work of the Lake Superior State University’s aquatic research lab, the St. Mary’s River has become a very popular fishery for Atlantic Salmon. The ARL also places a fishcam in the river at the hydro-plant to make viewing of fish possible. My family is from the Sault Ste. Marie area, so I have spent a lot of time on this river. Contact River Trek Guide Service and let us show you this very unique fishery.

Summer 2022 Atlantic Salmon trip dates available July 13 – 22.
