We have seen about everything the weather could possibly throw at us over the last 2 weeks. Rain, snow, sunny & warm t-shirt weather and frigid cold. The Muskegon River has seen some major changes too. 5 days ago it was up to 4000 cfs with a stain, as of yesterday it was 2000 cfs and close to gin clear. The lower section is holding a slight stain but the upper stretches are clear. Things are moving quickly on the river, as there has been a good number of fish that have already spawned. Although over the last few weeks we have been catching new chrome fish just moving in along with a good amount of fish dropping back to the lake. I have been running my trips on the Muskegon as of late, doing a lot of bead fishing with some backbouncing mixed in. Feel free to give me a call regarding spring steelhead availability or for information on any of the fish we target throughout the year. (616) 813-5989

We have had a roller coaster ride as far as weather goes this week. 70 degrees one day, 20 degrees the next. We had some rain the other night. It was not much, and has not done much to the rivers yet anyways. The Grand may bump up as a little more rain fell east of Grand Rapids. The Muskegon is still clear and at a basically normal flow. Fresh steelhead are showing. Yes, numbers are down so far, and the fish are running smaller as a whole this season, but we are still having good days with plenty of action and netting some very nice adult steelhead. We fish a few different rivers this time of year, so get ahold of me for options. I still have spring days I’m looking to fill, so contact me for availability. Call (616) 813-5989 to talk fishing or for information on any of the fishing trips I offer throughout the year. Warmer than normal weather is being forecast through at least the middle of March. Take advantage of the weather and give me a call to get out on the river.

We have been running our charters on the Muskegon and Grand rivers the last few weeks and have been enjoying some very nice winter weather. The Muskegon is at a fairly normal level with very clear water conditions at the present time. We have been catching some steelhead and nice resident trout on recent trips. Cloudy days have been fishing best for us due to the clear water conditions. On the sunny days we have been targeting the darker water and shadows. The Grand River is dropping nicely from the high water conditions caused by snowmelt and rain. The clarity has been improving every day, and we have been netting some nice adult steelhead as of late. Steelhead have been trickling in to both systems and with the warmer weather being forecasted, that will continue. Some days we have been coming across pods of fresh fish and other days we have only caught fish that have appeared to be in the river for a bit. So far for the 2023/24 steelhead season, we have been seeing smaller fish than years past. We have been seeing some big fish, but the majority have been on the smaller side. That may be how the run goes this season as a whole, we will see. Numbers have been down as well. Some days they have really been making us work, but we have been successful in getting fish to the boat. With the lack of snow this winter, it is possible we will be dealing with low water conditions this spring. Regardless, the steelhead will show, and we are not far from our spring push of fish. If you are interested in getting out this late winter or spring, I have March dates available and also some April days open yet. Feel free to give me a call for trip information or current river conditions (616) 813-5989.
