Pictured above is Barry with a nice Muskegon River resident brown he caught today. All area rivers are back to near normal flows after last month’s record-breaking flood. The Muskegon River has a tea stain to it similar to UP rivers which is something I have never seen on the Muskegon, probably a result of the flood. Fishing has been good for a variety of species, which is typical of May. Over the last week we have boated trout, smallmouth, walleye and a few run-ins with northern pike. Trout fishing should stay good through June, and with the coming warm weather, the smallmouth bite will explode. The Grand River level continues to drop, and as it does, the fishing will continue to improve. If you have interest in a summer outing, get in touch with any questions you might have. Summer trips are great for experienced and non-experience anglers and also kids. Call 616 813-5989 for information or an up-to-date fishing report.

Pictured above is Cameron with a great steelhead he caught while fishing with me recently. The spring steelhead migration is happening, and the fishing has been good. I expect steelhead fishing to remain good through the month of April and possibly into May. The majority of our catch has been new fishing entering the river, but we have also been catching a few fish that are dropping back to the lake. We have also been catching some nice resident trout along with walleye, even though walleye harvest is closed until the end of April. I have been tripping on the Muskegon River which is high due to recent storms. If you are interested in a steelhead charter, I do have some April availability. Don’t hesitate to contact me for trip details. We run guided river trips all 12 months of the year. Again, please contact me with any interest you may have in a particular month or species. (616) 813-5989. Thanks for looking and best of luck on the water.

Sorry for the lapse in reports, but we have been busy on the water, with family, and around the house. The steelhead fishing was great all winter. There were plenty of periods when we could not get on the river due to the extremely cold weather, but when we could the fishing was great. We have had some significant rainfall over the last couple days. I would imagine the Grand will be a chocolate milk mess over the next few weeks and the best fishing on that will be at the dam. Personally, I prefer to run my trips elsewhere when that is the case. The Muskegon River level has been on the rise over the last couple of days and has been fishing good. I will more than likely be spending the majority of my time there in the near future, but we will see how things play out. The steelhead numbers across the board have been very good since fall and we are looking forward to a great spring. I have a few March days available yet and some April availability as well. Don’t hesitate to call me for trip information or any questions you may have. Text or phone call works best, and if I don’t answer right away it’s because I’m busy but I will return all calls/texts. We are a full-time guide service, on the water all 12 months of the year. (616) 813-5989. Thanks, and good luck on the water.
