Currently the Grand River is high and dirty as a result of the round of storms that hit Michigan last week. Before the rain, the Grand was at a perfect level and fishing good. As of today, it looks like the river has crested at 6300 cfs which is not a ridiculous high flow. The river should start to drop now and hopefully in a week or so we will be able to continue to run our bass trips on it. Until then, we will be doing our guide trips on the Muskegon River. The Muskegon is at a good summertime flow currently and is fishing good. Our customers are getting a lot of smallmouth to the boat with some big mature ones in the mix. This is typically the time-frame we see the best smallmouth fishing of the summer, and the bite should stay good through September. Sub-surface and top-water presentations have both been productive. The first full week of September I will begin running my King Salmon trips on the Pere Marquette River. I have very limited availability left for those, so get in touch with me to talk about what I have open. Around mid October I will start my fall steelhead trips. Those dates are starting to fill, so again, if you have any interest in a fall steelhead trip contact me to talk about trip details. I can be reached at 616 813-5989 or steel-header@live.com

Summer bass fishing on the Muskegon and Grand Rivers has been good. The Muskegon River is at a normal summertime level and the water is very clear. The Grand has what I would consider a good stain, and it is dropping to a good fishing level after weeks of higher flows from rain. Typical finesse fishing tactics are producing some good fish. We have also had some days with a decent topwater bite. Good bass fishing will continue this month and into September. Get in touch with me at (616) 813-5989 for information on our fishing trips. Coming up in September, we will begin our King Salmon guiding season on the Pere Marquette River.

We finally received some much needed rain putting an end to our drought. Since the rain, which was about a week and a half ago, we have not fished the Grand River due to very high and dirty water. The water level on the Grand is dropping quickly though and if that trend continues we should be back to fishing it next week. As of late, we have been running our trips on the Muskegon River. The Muskegon had a much needed increase in flow from the rain, but is now back to low and clear conditions. The smallmouth bass fishing has been good, as would be expected this time of year. We have also been taking some northern pike on our recent Muskegon trips. We have been working the darker rock infested water and fishing tight to cover with both sub-surface and top-water presentations. I have some July and August days available if you want to get in on the hot summer bite. Give me a call at 616 813-5989 if you want to talk fishing.
