We have entered what is classified as the beginning of early winter fishing in West Michigan. The Grand River is slightly above normal water level, and the color looks great. Water temperature is in the upper 30’s at this time. A mix of chrome and dark steelhead are spread throughout the system. Most of our fish have been caught bobber fishing with beads, spawn bags or a combination of both. Backbouncing has been productive in some areas of the river as well. The Muskegon River is at a good level and the water is very clear with water temps in the low 40’s. Because of the clear water conditions, bobber fishing with beads or small bags has been the most productive tactic with cloudy days fishing best.

I have winter dates available for those wanting to experience a beautiful and productive time to be on the river. Get in touch with me at 616 813-5989 or steel-header@live.com for all things related to fishing.

The appropriate weather for fall steelhead fishing has finally arrived. Some rain and cooler temps have steelhead coming into West Michigan rivers. I have been running about 90% of my trips on the Muskegon River. The fishing has been consistent with a few tough days and good days in the mix. The level of the Muskegon has been good and the water clarity has been slightly stained to clear depending on the day or stretch of river. The Grand River has been slowly dropping. It is a little ways away from the level I like to see, but hopefully it will get there. I do have some December dates available yet. Get with me if your interested in getting out in what I consider one of my favorite months to be steelhead fishing. (616) 813-5989 or steel-header@live.com

Pictured above is client and friend John with an awesome Pere Marquette River King Salmon. We are finished with our King Salmon guide trips on the PM. It was another successful season up there and our guests were able to tangle with some good fish. The season started off strong, but the warm weather finally caught up with us and it made for a tough bite towards the end of our trips up there. The Muskegon River has been fishing tough as of late for migratory fish. King Salmon, Coho Salmon and steelhead are in the river, but 65 degree crystal clear water has not been helpful in getting them in the mood to play. We have received some rain recently. Hopefully soon we will get some cooler days and cold nights which would be a big help in getting things going. The Grand River has been fishing OK for steelhead mainly at the 6th Street dam area. As river temps drop, more areas of the river will open up for opportunities to catch fall chrome steelhead. I have a few November days available yet and a good amount of December open for bookings.
