Pictured above is client and friend John with an awesome Pere Marquette River King Salmon. We are finished with our King Salmon guide trips on the PM. It was another successful season up there and our guests were able to tangle with some good fish. The season started off strong, but the warm weather finally caught up with us and it made for a tough bite towards the end of our trips up there. The Muskegon River has been fishing tough as of late for migratory fish. King Salmon, Coho Salmon and steelhead are in the river, but 65 degree crystal clear water has not been helpful in getting them in the mood to play. We have received some rain recently. Hopefully soon we will get some cooler days and cold nights which would be a big help in getting things going. The Grand River has been fishing OK for steelhead mainly at the 6th Street dam area. As river temps drop, more areas of the river will open up for opportunities to catch fall chrome steelhead. I have a few November days available yet and a good amount of December open for bookings. Give me a call at 616 813-5989 if your looking for fishing information or would like to talk about a guided trip.

I have been doing King Salmon trips for about 2 weeks now. As is typical with kings, the fish are large and mean and giving our customers quite a challenge when it comes to landing them. Some rain and cooler temps sure would be nice at this point and should really get the run going strong. I am booking fall steelhead trips now. I have a few dates still available for the end of October and some great dates available for November and December. The best way to get ahold of me is by phone or text at (616) 813-5989. My email is steel-header@live.com. Forgive me if I don’t answer email inquiries right away, sometimes I go a couple days without checking my mail. Best of luck to everyone out on the water.

We have been running our trips on both the Grand and Muskegon River. The Grand has dropped nicely from the bump in water level a couple weeks ago due to storms. Currently the river has somewhat of a heavy stain in areas I have fished, but it looks good and is clearing everyday. Some storms are predicted over the next couple of days, so we will see what that does to the river. Water temp in the Grand is in the upper 70’s to low 80’s. Just about every presentation seems to be catching smallmouth, and we have been coming across some nice crappies as well.

The Muskegon is at a slightly elevated summer level at this time and is clear to somewhat stained depending on the stretch of river. Water temps are in the mid 70’s. Sub-surface and top-water presentations have both been effective.

In a few weeks I will be guiding for king salmon and not long after that will be fall steelhead. Get in touch with me at 616 813-5989 or steel-header@live.com for available dates.
