Pictured above is my customer/friend Ryan with a great Muskegon River smallmouth. The smallmouth fishing remains good despite the lack of water in area rivers. The Muskegon River is extremely low, and the Grand River is about as low as it gets too. Hopefully we get some much-needed rain soon, but from the looks of it, we will be dealing with low river levels this fall. I ran my last smallmouth trip yesterday and will soon begin my migratory fish guiding season. I will be kicking off salmon season on the Pere Marquette River and moving south as the weather cools. If you have questions or interest in a fall guide trip, get in touch with me to talk. (616) 813-5989.
Smallmouth bass fishing in West Michigan area rivers is great right now. Rivers are low and warm and the smallies seem to be loving it. Top-water and finesse tactics have both been working great, and we have been boating some quality fish. Other species are available if you can get your presentation past the aggressive smallmouth. The hot bite should continue for the remainder of summer. I have been running my trips on both the Muskegon and Grand rivers. Both have been fishing equally good. If you are interested in a summer fishing trip, I have some openings the last couple weeks of this month and August. The best way to get in touch with me regarding trip information or a current report is by calling or texting me directly at (616) 813-5989. My email is steel-header@live.com.
The month of June has been great for both trout and smallmouth bass fishing. Now, with the present heat wave and warming river temperatures, we will be concentrating on smallmouth bass. Smallmouth bass fishing on the Muskegon River has been good over the last couple of weeks. Good numbers of fish being boated with some large ones in the 18-to-20-inch range making things interesting. We haven’t had a great top-water bite yet, but that is probably coming soon. With the river temps rising, I expect the smallmouth bite to only get better. Northern Pike and the occasional walleye are also possibilities on our summer trips, and we have seen some summer-run steelhead poking around as well. If you have interest in a summer trip, get ahold of me for details. Summer guide trips are great for both experienced and non-experienced anglers, and we love taking kids out too. 616 813-5989 for trip information.
