Summer smalmouth bass trips have been going good so far this summer despite the lack of precipitation. Area rivers are low. The Muskegon River is low and very clear at the present time. It has been fishing well. The Grand River is also very low for this time of year but does have a slight stain to the water. We have been experiencing a good top-water bite on the Muskegon River, especially first thing in the morning. Both rivers have been fishing good with the usual sub-surface presentations. I do have plenty of summer availability for those interested in a summer fishing trip. It is a relaxing way to spend a summer day and is suitable for both experienced and new anglers. We typically catch a lot of fish, with some large ones in the mix.
I have had some days become available for September and October King Salmon due to a couple cancellations. One was a four day cancellation. It would be best to contact me directly to go over what I have available. These trips will take place on either the Pere Marquette or Muskegon River. We are also taking bookings for fall steelhead. Pictured above is client and good friend Chuck with a great spring steelhead. The steelhead fishing has been good for us as we begin the spring season. We have been catching new fish, fish that have been around awhile and have yet to spawn and drop back fish on our recent trips. At this time, most West Michigan rivers are experiencing high water conditions. The high-water levels and the warmer temperatures that are being forecast should really get the spring run going. I’m anticipating that the next 3 weeks should be good fishing. I have some spring dates available through April. If you’re thinking about a trip, get in touch with me to discuss what dates are open. The spring steelhead run is quickly approaching. I have some good March week dates available yet. My weekend availability is March 11 (4hr trip only on this date) March 12, 19, and 26. April week dates are available as well. April weekend availability at this time is April 15, 16, 22, 23 and 29. With the warmer than average winter we have had so far, there is a possibility the run could get going early. But the fish will ultimately decide that! Winter fishing has been going good for us on both the Grand and Muskegon Rivers. Some days we have had to work for them harder than others, but that is typical of winter steelhead fishing. We got a bump in water levels on both rivers from the February rainfall. A big push of fish did not seem to come in with the increased water levels, but some new fish have trickled in, and the older fish were shuffled around a bit.
